VOICE CASE INFORMATION SYSTEM (VCIS)
VCIS enables outside access to case
information through the use of the buttons on a touch tone telephone to search for
information on a particular case. A case can be accessed either by the name of the party filing or the case number. VCIS
can provide basic case information such
as: date filed, parties, chapter, date of the 341 meeting, name of trustee, name of
attorney and the current status of a case. To access the VCIS system, dial 202-208-1365.
PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records)
PACER provides basic case information as well as access
to docket sheets, claims registers, and mailing matrices. PACER provides
up to the minute summaries of documents filed in a case. To subscribe
to PACER or for additional information, please contact the PACER
Service Center at 1-800-676-6856.
INTAKE SECTION - CLERK'S OFFICE
The intake section of the Clerk's Office can provide general information regarding
cases such as verification of the date a case was filed, the chapter and
the debtor's name. The intake area can also provide general procedural
information as well as the Court's requirements for filing various
documents.
CASE ADMINISTRATION - CLERK'S OFFICE
Case administrators can provide general assistance with documents which have been filed and docketed to a
particular case. For motions and applications, a status cannot be provided
until 15 days
after the date the motion was filed. To speak with a case administrator,
you must have the bankruptcy case number since cases are assigned to
administrators based on the last digit of the case number. If you need
information about an
adversary proceeding, you may speak with the case administrator who is assigned to the
associated bankruptcy case.
ARCHIVED CASES
For information regarding cases that have
been archived and are therefore not available at the Clerk's Office, you
will need to obtain records from the Washington National Records Center.
Bankruptcy cases are typically archived two years after a case is
closed. It will be necessary for you to contact the Clerk's Office prior to the completion of the form to obtain an Accession Number, Location Number and a Box Number for a case which has been archived. Detailed information and the form for obtaining archived records is available by accessing the Washington
National Records Center (PDF) section of this web page.
COPIES OF ARCHIVED FILES BY FAX/MAIL
Photocopies of archived files can also be
obtained by FAX or by mail from the Washington National Records
