HOURS OF OPERATION

The Clerk's Office of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia is located in Room 1225 of the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse at 333 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20001. The Clerk's Office is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except on federal holidays.  The Courthouse, however, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  As a customer service, the Clerk's Office has installed a speedy-filing box in the Courthouse.  [...more ]

LEGAL ADVICE

A Bankruptcy case is a formal legal proceeding affecting the rights of both debtors and creditors. For this reason, the Clerk’s Office staff is prohibited from giving any advice which may be considered legal in nature. Bankruptcy is sufficiently complicated that most individuals find it desirable to obtain the services of an attorney.  [...more ]

PAYMENTS

Payment of filing or other fees can be made by exact change in cash or by money order or an attorney's business check made payable to "Clerk, U.S. Bankruptcy Court". Personal checks are not accepted.
